What size backing for a non square quilt top?

I am use to making square quilts, but I am making a one that is not square.  How do I calculate the size of the backing fabric?

This answer has been selected by the question author as the best answer. Using the finished top, measure the top in three places (left, center, and right) to assure the resulting number is correct.  Do the same for the side.  Give yourself 6 inches wider on all sides and make your cuts.  This will give you more than enough, and you can always trim the backing down to size after you have it quilted.
