Sew Crazy - Cedar Park, TX

Sew Crazy is owned by a former interior designer. Her eye for fabrics is what draws quilters to her store. She doesn't offer classes, but she does like to teach. I asked about her selection of Chenille-It and she taught me how to use it to bind a quilt! She also has a neat collection of squares that are hand-painted Texas themes. From cows to cowboys, everything’s better with bluebonnets on it.

She makes unique bags and purses from her large collection of interior design fabrics leftover from her earlier days.

You can also fill a bag of these at her $5 station.

Over The Top Quilting Studio - Cedar Park, TX

Here, there are long arm classes, certification, and rental. They also teach many other classes, including fabric dying. I was quick to see that the way they display their upcoming glasses tempted all quilters.

Because of the great relationship between these two shops, quilters who take classes at Over The Top can get a discount when purchasing fabric from Sew Crazy.

Studio classes

During their quilting certification classes, the students quilt "baby bundles" for the local guild's charity project. They also save a half day per month for charity quilting.

This studio selects a quilter to feature each month. The display has a biography of the quilter and a large wall display of her quilts.

Glossary

Long Arm
A special quilting machine that is used for machine quilting a quilt. The quilt is held taut on a large frame while the machine arm moves freely to perform a manual or preprogrammed quilting design using free motion. The machine is very expensive, so many owners will rent out time on their machine.
