Quilt Con My Personal Favorites

In previous posts we shared some amazing quilts from the recent QuiltCon show sponsored by the Modern Quilt Guild. We showed you the "best of" winners, the category winners and some quilts in the fabric challenge category. But wait there's more.

Quilt Con My Personal Favorites

It is unfortunate that all the quilts entered in the various competitions couldn't all be winners. Yes, it is an honor just to be selected but still there were plenty of quilts on display that grab your heart and soul. So I wanted to showcase my personal favorites, that didn't quite make it as a ribbon winner.

Circle of Friends

"Circle of Friends" by Erin Case certainly followed through on the Transparency category. I loved the way she blended the colors into such a tantalizing design.

Loose Weave

Holly Clarke entered "Loose Weave" in the Piecing competition. But I think the quilting helped make this offering pop out on the display board. The designer noted the "curvy machine and hand quilting provides a sense of movement." Don't you agree?

X Factor

"X Factor" certainly was a quality use of negative space but the "Xs" for me blended together to draw me into this quilt. Karin Rabe did a great job on this design.

The Crush

"The Crush" by Abigail Vargas also was a negative space entry. The criss cross hatch mark quilting on the circles offered some depth to this quilt.

Big Log Cabin 2

"Big Log Cabin 2" by Tara Faughnan was part of a special display. As I stared into this quilt, I felt drawn into the center piece. The color selection was perfect and made a great combination.

Grief

Julie Lapaime offered "Grief" which was a moving piece for me. I could sense the emotional grief this person was feeling. The contrasting colors made the piece stand out. The designer added that "sometimes grieving feels like a darkness that surrounds us, dulling our existence. Other times it fells like a complex expression of all our emotions. Sometimes it feels like both."

So there you have it. Hope you liked our choices, even if they were not ribbon winners. Which is your favorite?.
