If you want to take advantage of this, you first need to understand the market.  Younger quilters think and act completely different than we may be accustomed. Not knowing how they think and act can hurt our businesses. Here are some thoughts on attracting younger customers.

Younger quilters (generally those who use computers and smart phones) have some general characteristics:

    Discussion

If you join the discussion with other service professionals, visit the Service Professionals Forum on QuiltingHub.  It is private and only available to members of QuiltingHub.  Nevertheless, let's discuss the first few key points here.

If you are a teacher or speaker, you will need to begin to offer classes and topics that the younger quilters are interested in.  Mention your younger services in your service description on your QuiltingHub member profile, website, and Facebook page.  No matter what your service, you will want to change your online presence to be more visible.  Your Facebook page must be active with good ratings and a high number of likes.  Your website must be active.  If you have events, they should be on QuiltingHub.  Get high ratings and likes on your QuiltingHub member page. If your service will allow you to create training or 'show off' videos, do it.

    Conclusions and Your Actions

The bottom line is you want to increase your online presence, show customers like you, and adapt to the younger quilters interests.

    In Summary

Young quilters use your web presence to find, decide to use, and rate you. Their sources of information are Facebook, your website, Google, and service professional list sites like QuiltingHub. Get on all of them. Use your SEO expert as a guide.  Choose that person wisely based on other customers having had an excellent experience. If they do not have good results from prior customers, find someone else.  Seriously! Do not cut corners here.  If you can not afford an SEO person, complete your QuiltingHub page as best as you can.

    Additional Comments to QuiltingHub Members

Some service professionals get more traffic from QuiltingHub than others. When we delve into why that is, we discover that service professionals need to have a complete listing and get their rating/likes up. To do this, we suggest the following:

    • Click the Page Completion Guide on your detail page.
    • Get your QuiltingHub shops page likes and ratings up. This is VERY important.
    • Add events, If you have them.

If you have not done these things, you may see lackluster performance.  If you have done it, you have success.
